Legal · Terms & Conditions

How we work,
in writing.

These terms govern every project between Chronolens and its clients. They are written to be read — not buried. If something is unclear, email before signing, not after.

Acceptance of terms

By engaging Chronolens for any photography, cinematography, production or post-production service — whether through the contact form, email, WhatsApp, phone, or any other channel — you agree to these Terms and Conditions in full.

Engagement begins when you send a project enquiry, approve a quotation, or pay a booking advance — whichever comes first. These terms apply to all work undertaken by Chronolens, including work commissioned by third parties on your behalf.

If you do not agree to these terms, do not proceed with booking.

Services provided

Chronolens offers the following services, as detailed on the Services page of this website:

  • Photography — wedding, portrait, brand, editorial and architectural
  • Cinematography — wedding films, brand films, short-form documentary and social content
  • Production — concept, location, crew coordination and on-set direction
  • Post & Edit — offline editing, color grading, sound design and finishing

The specific scope of each project is confirmed in writing via a quotation or project brief before work begins. Any services not listed in that document are not included.

03 ·

Booking & payment

Dates are not held without a booking advance. A verbal or written expression of interest does not constitute a confirmed booking.

Payment schedule 30% advance — due to confirm and lock the date
40% mid-payment — due before the shoot day(s)
30% final payment — due before delivery of final files

All payments are to be made via bank transfer (IMPS/NEFT/RTGS), UPI, or any method agreed in writing. Cash payments are accepted for amounts below ₹2,000.

GST is applicable on all services as per current Indian tax regulations and will be included in the invoice. If you require a GST invoice, provide your GSTIN at the time of booking.

Final files and deliverables will not be released until all outstanding payments are cleared in full.

04 ·

Cancellation & rescheduling

The booking advance is non-refundable in all circumstances. It compensates for the date being held and other bookings declined.

  • Cancellation more than 60 days before the shoot — advance is forfeited; no further charges
  • Cancellation 30–60 days before the shoot — 50% of the total project fee is due
  • Cancellation less than 30 days before the shoot — 100% of the total project fee is due
  • Rescheduling with more than 30 days notice — one reschedule permitted at no charge, subject to availability
  • Rescheduling with less than 30 days notice — treated as a cancellation per the schedule above

Chronolens reserves the right to cancel a project in cases of medical emergency, equipment failure beyond repair, or circumstances beyond reasonable control. In such cases, a full refund of all payments received (except any expenses already incurred) will be issued.

05 ·

Deliverables & timelines

Timelines are agreed at the time of booking and confirmed in writing. Standard timelines are:

  • Photography — 2 to 3 weeks from shoot date
  • Wedding film highlight — 6 to 10 weeks from shoot date
  • Brand film — 4 to 8 weeks from shoot date
  • Post-production only — 2 to 5 weeks from receipt of all raw files

Deliverables are provided via a secure online link (Google Drive or equivalent). Physical delivery on a hard drive can be arranged at additional cost.

Chronolens retains all raw (unedited) files unless otherwise agreed in writing. Raw file delivery, if requested, is charged separately.

Each project includes a fixed number of revision rounds as stated in the quotation. Additional revisions beyond this are charged at ₹2,000 per hour.

06 ·

Ownership & usage rights

Upon receipt of final payment, the client receives a non-exclusive licence to use the delivered images and films for the purposes agreed in the project brief. Typical permitted uses include:

  • Personal use — printing, sharing, framing
  • Social media — Instagram, Facebook, YouTube and similar platforms
  • Brand / commercial use — website, advertising, print collateral

Usage outside the agreed scope — including resale, sublicensing, use in stock libraries, or use in campaigns not agreed at the time of booking — requires a separate written agreement and may incur additional licensing fees.

Copyright in all photographs and films remains with Chronolens at all times, regardless of payment. The client is purchasing a usage licence, not the copyright.

07 ·

Portfolio rights

Chronolens retains the right to use any images or films produced under this agreement for portfolio, website, social media, competition entry, and promotional purposes — unless the client requests confidentiality in writing before the shoot.

Confidentiality requests are honoured for a period of up to 12 months from delivery. After this period, portfolio use rights are assumed unless a new written agreement is made.

No images will be shared publicly before the client has received their final delivery, unless explicitly agreed otherwise.

08 ·

On-set conduct

Chronolens works best in a calm, collaborative environment. The client is responsible for ensuring that all subjects, guests, and third parties present are aware that photography and filming will take place.

Chronolens will not photograph or film any individual who explicitly objects, regardless of the client's instructions.

The client is responsible for obtaining any venue permits, location permissions, or third-party clearances required for the shoot. Chronolens is not liable for delays or cancellations arising from missing permits.

In cases where a shoot environment is unsafe, unworkable, or hostile, Chronolens reserves the right to pause or end the shoot. The client will be invoiced for time already worked.

09 ·

Limitation of liability

Chronolens takes every reasonable precaution to safeguard all footage and images, including dual-card recording where available and immediate backup at the end of each shoot day.

In the rare event of equipment failure, media failure, theft, or accidental loss, Chronolens's liability is limited to a refund of fees paid for the affected portion of work. No liability is accepted for consequential losses, emotional distress, or costs incurred as a result of re-shooting.

Chronolens is not responsible for:

  • Events or moments missed due to circumstances outside reasonable control
  • Lighting conditions, weather, or venue restrictions
  • Incomplete cooperation from subjects or third parties
  • Stylistic preferences not communicated before the shoot

The client is strongly advised to maintain their own backup of all delivered files. Chronolens archives project files for 2 years from delivery, after which they may be deleted without notice.

10 ·

Force majeure

Neither party shall be liable for failure to perform their obligations if such failure results from circumstances genuinely beyond their control, including but not limited to: natural disaster, flood, earthquake, pandemic, government-imposed lockdown, riot, strike, or sudden illness.

In such events, both parties will make reasonable efforts to reschedule. If rescheduling is not possible, fees will be refunded on a pro-rata basis for work not yet completed, minus any expenses already incurred.

11 ·

Disputes & jurisdiction

In the event of a dispute, both parties agree to first attempt resolution through good-faith direct communication. Most issues can be resolved with a clear conversation.

If direct resolution is not possible, the matter will be referred to mediation before any legal action is pursued.

These terms are governed by the laws of India. Any legal proceedings shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Udaipur, Rajasthan.

12 ·

Privacy & data

Chronolens collects only the information necessary to deliver the agreed services — name, contact details, project brief, and payment records.

This information is never sold, shared with third parties, or used for marketing purposes without explicit consent.

Client contact details are retained for up to 3 years for accounting and legal purposes, in accordance with Indian tax regulations. You may request deletion of your personal data at any time by writing to info@chronolens.studio.

13 ·

Changes to these terms

Chronolens reserves the right to update these Terms and Conditions at any time. Changes will be published on this page with an updated effective date.

The version of these terms in effect at the time of your booking confirmation governs that project. Changes after booking do not affect existing confirmed projects.
